ABOUT US
The Pingelly Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service was inaugurated in 1959.
It was then known as the Pingelly Volunteer Fire Brigade. The fire appliance was an open top International fire truck. The Station was an old disused shed at the rear of the Pingelly Hotel. In 1965, a new Fire Station building was erected at the present site at 20 Pasture Street, Pingelly.
The Station also received a new fire appliance, a J Series Bedford.
The Station also had a second Shire owned appliance for bushfire work. This was an ex army 4 wheel drive Ford V8 troop carrier that was converted into an all terrain fire fighting workhorse. It was often called "The Blitz" The Bedford and Ford "Blitz" worked well together and carried out many fire fighting duties over the years. The "Blitz" was eventually pensioned off and replaced with an International C1600 4 wheel drive fire fighting appliance.
Not long after, the Bedford was replaced with a dual cab Mazda. The International, being a petrol motor was not a good option for fire fighting and was replaced with a Hino 4 wheel drive ex mining fuel tender. The Mazda was replaced with the current appliance, an Isuzu 3.4 general purpose appliance.
At the same time, the Hino was replaced with a new Isuzu 3.4 rural fire fighting appliance. A Toyota fast attack appliance was in the Station for a short while and it was replaced with the current Land Rover dual cab fast attack appliance which has since been replaced with a Toyota Landcruiser fast attack. The UT 3.4 has been replaced by a new Isuzu Urban Tanker UT 160 and the 3.4B Isuzu Bushfire tanker has been replaced by a 4.4B Isuzu Bushfire Tanker.
The current appliances have been deployed to fires in Lower Hotham, Bullsbrook, Yornaning, Collie, Williams, North Bannister, Pickering Brook, Kukerin and Dumbleyung and Corrigin. They have also attended Motor Vehicle accidents in an area of 60 km radius of the Pingelly Fire Station. The Station crew has also constructed a new fast fill trailer which will be used as an extra filling point if required during a large scale fire. The trailer is equipped to draft water from dams, swimming pools, storage tanks and lakes.
The Fire Station has had two major refurbishments. A large Appliance Room was attached to the east side of the Fire Station in the early 1990's. The Appliance Room houses the UT 160 Urban Tanker, 4.4B Rural Appliance, LT 422 Fast Attack and the Pingelly 43 Fast Fill trailer.
The first refurbishment took place in 2014 with the Fire Station receiving a new metal roof, electrical upgrade, new ceilings and repainting of the training room and many other additions.
A new sealed car park area has been added to the rear of the Fire Station with solar lighting for security.
In 2022, the Fire Station has just undergone a major upgrade with a new Tunic Room, male and female toilet and showers, washing machine area, Breathing Apparatus cleaning room, Universal Access Toilet and sensor lighting systems.
Pingelly Volunteer Fire and Rescue members are encouraged to participate in all available training programs to update their skills and competency. Pingelly Fire Station is unique as it has a dual role as a Volunteer Fire and Rescue and also as a Bushfire Brigade. Members are trained in both areas of Volunteer Fire and Rescue and also Bushfire.
The Pingelly Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service has a membership of 30 and is made up of Active, Support and Probationary fire fighters.
